Parliament security head loses CCMA case
Updated | By ANA
Parliament was free to proceed with its disciplinary hearing against its suspended head of protection services, Zelda Holtzman, after the CCMA on Monday ruled in the favour of the legislature
“The CCMA has ruled in favour of Parliament in this regard, indicating that our processes have been right and sound and that we should proceed on course around this,” secretary to Parliament Gengezi Mgidlana said.
“Basically…the CCMA has communicated that the application that was made by Ms Holtzman did not hold water at the time so I think that really puts us back on course in terms of making sure that we follow all due process and in following that due process we make sure it’s a fair process….”
Holtzman approached the CCMA, claiming her suspension was unfair.
She was suspended in July for alleged security breaches in Parliament.
Explaining the ruling by the CCMA, Parliament’s chief legal advisor Zuraya Adhikarie said: “What was actually before the CCMA was a challenge by Ms Holtzman on the alleged unfair suspension. In regards to that issue Parliament argued that the CCMA lacked jurisdiciton. Ms Holtzman on the other hand argued that the CCMA had jurisdiciton and should hear the matter.”
