Parliamentary staff remain on strike
Updated | By ANA
The strike by parliamentary staff continued on Monday as the National Education, Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) awaited the outcome of talks between its national leadership and the legislature’s presiding officers.
“The President of Nehawu and the presiding officers will meet sometime today. We’ve told the workers to go home because it is too hot. We await the outcome of that meeting,” Nehawu parliamentary branch chairman Sthembiso Tembe said.
The Union downed tools on November 6, demanding performance bonusses based on the annual salary of workers.
While Parliament is offering workers 2.1 percent of their annual salary package as a performance bonus, Nehawu has brought down its demands.
“The least we are prepared to take is 3.5 percent for those who scored 3 to 3.5. [out of five] on their performance assessments,” Tembe said.
“For the highest performing workers who scored between 3.6 to 4 [out of five], were are demanding 7.5 percent.” - ANA
