The Hawks in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for a parolee who allegedly shot and killed an off-duty police officer in Kanyamazane near Mbombela.
The 35-year-old man, Sibusiso Jacky Maseko, was released on parole earlier this month after serving time behind bars for a double murder.
Hawks spokesperson Dineo Sekgotodi says Captain Sibusiso Mthombothi and the suspect were allegedly involved in an argument after the suspect bumped into his car.
"The matter was discussed amongst the two with the assistance of a CI police sergeant, who was with the deceased. An agreement was made for payment of R5,000 for the repairs of the damages.
"It is further alleged that the police sergeant drove the suspect's car to the parents of the deceased pending the payment as agreed.
"According to the witnesses, it is alleged that during the argument, the suspect took out the firearm and shot at the deceased. He later succumbed to his injuries."
