Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said a 45-year old woman and her two daughters were killed in their home in Stofile Street in Govan Mbeki township at about 2am on Tuesday morning.
Beetge said police found a five-year-old boy and a 10-month-old baby unharmed in the house after the shooting.
The mother and her daughters 21 and 15 were shot in the head.
“At this stage the motive for the murders is unknown but police are following up on leads. Police are also not excluding the possibility it could be a hit. There was no sign of forced entry and the obvious thing seems that the suspect or suspects just came in to kill them,” Beetge said.
No arrests have been made.
