PE woman to appear for fraud and theft
Updated | By ANA
A Port Elizabeth woman is expected to be sentenced in the city’s Commercial Crimes court on Tuesday on charges of fraud and theft.
Mavolene Kriel, who was employed at Knitmesh SA as an office administrator, previously pleaded guilty to fraud and theft involving close on R900, 000.
According to the state, Kriel used the existing supplier details on the banking system and changed the bank account details of the suppliers to one of her own bank accounts.
She further destroyed invoices and as a result authorised payments were paid directly into her bank accounts.
Kriel further transferred large sums of money from the Knitmesh SA bank account to her personal bank account during July 2012 and May 2014.
It also emerged that the company was paying for a cellphone contract and at no point was she entitled to a company phone.
