Police Minister Bheki Cele says the three people of interest who were
taking in for questioning in connection with the death of a German tourist have
been released.
The three were released on Friday.
They were taken in for questioning on Wednesday, two days after 75-year-old German national was shot and killed during a botched hijacking near the Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga.
Four German tourists were travelling Numbi Gate at Mdluli Safari lodge when they were stopped by three armed suspects.
Cele says while the three were not connected to the murder, they did provide the police with valuable information.
“The three people of interest have spoken to the police and have been let go, but the information received from them is quality information and we are happy with.
“We have managed to get the name and the person that we believe is the person to provide responses on what happened.
“The people of interest are the ones that gave us the information. We are satisfied so we let them go, we are sure that the person we found now will bring us closer to cracking the case.”
