Petrol price to increase in June
Updated | By Olivia Phalaetsile
The Department of Energy said the price of both grade of petrol will increase by 52 cents a litre on Wednesday, while diesel will increase by 76 cents a litre.
The Department of Energy's spokesperson, Robert Maake, said the reasons for the increase was due to the rise in the crude oil price which led to the increase of petroleum products in the international market.
Maake said the weakening of the rand against the US dollar in the period under review was also a major factor.
Economists.co.za economist Mike Schussler said we could expect further increases in the diesel price.
"The diesel prices are going up steeply, the inflation impact will come from here in the longer term," he said.
