At least 20 000 South African petroleum industry workers from the Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) have been on strike since yesterday morning, for better wages.

According to the National Petroleum Employers' Association of South Africa's CEO, Gerhard Papenfus, there is concern over fuel supply.

"The latest information is that striking workers are preventing the transport of petrol from the depots, especially in Pretoria. This could mean that petrol pumps in Pretoria could dry up by this afternoon," Papenfus said.

CEPPWAWU is demanding a 9 percent wage increase and have indicated that they would observe a stay away this weekend.
