Phahlane released on bail

Phahlane released on bail

Former acting national police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane, and two co-accused, have been granted bail of R10 000 each.

Phahlane

Phahlane along with his wife, Beauty, and business man Durand Snyman handed themselves over to the Independent Police Investigation Directorate (IPID) on Thursday morning.

The three then appeared at the Pretoria Commercial Crimes Court on charges of corruption and fraud.

The case stems from an IPID investigation into Phahlane's lifestyle - which includes his multi-million rand home, as well as luxury cars allegedly bought for him and his wife.

Snyman is said to have received tenders worth R5 billion - allegedly since 2010.

The National Prosecution Authority's, Phindi Mjonondwana, said outside court they did not oppose bail because there was no legal grounds for such an argument.

She says court came to the conclusion that none of the three accused were flight risks and stay within the vicinity of the court.

Mjonodwana says they are ruling out the possibility of more arrests.

The matter has been postponed to the 12th March for further investigation and to declare the contents of the dockets to the defence team.
