Phala Phala 'moment for celebration' of judicial authority - Maimane
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader, Mmusi Maimane has praised the Section 89 panel report saying it is a celebration of judicial authority.
An independent parliamentary panel probing the burglary scandal at President Cyril Ramaphosa's farm said on Wednesday that it found enough evidence to warrant a parliamentary debate on whether he should be impeached.
"We need to build better ability for institutions, we need to ensure that everyone is equal under the law, and we must celebrate as South Africans that our judiciary stood firm enough and confronted the president, it was true in the Zondo Commission,” he said.
"When Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng ruled against President Jacob Zuma and today an independent panel of judges stood against conceivably the most powerful civilian in the country."
Maimane described the scathing report as a referendum for the ANC and its president.
He says there is a need to put in a transitional government.
"Given that there is a need for a fresh mandate, we need to put a transitional government in place, furthermore so that can prepare the country for elections because snap elections are not feasible, we just need a transitional government in place."
Pressure has been mounting on the President to step aside over the scandal that has tainted his administration.
