Pharmacist arrested in massive drug bust in Hammanskraal
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Police arrested a 55-year-old qualified pharmacist for
manufacturing unlawful steroids in a farmhouse in Vasfontein, Hammanskraal
outside Pretoria on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says the pharmacist's 52-year-old life partner and a 38-year-old employee were also arrested at the scene.
"This laboratory appeared to be manufacturing steroids unlawfully or illegally. We recovered quite a bit of finished products, chemicals and pressing machines."
Naidoo says some of the chemical packages discovered at the scene had no labels, which posed a danger to the consumers.
He adds police are searching for a fourth suspect who was previously convicted from similar crimes in 2015.
"From a journal that we uncovered from the scene, it seems this person is still being supplied these steroids, and we will be looking to arrest this person as well."
Police investigations are continuing.
