Phone lines restored at majority of Gauteng hospitals
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The Health Department in Gauteng on Friday confirmed the phone lines at most of the province's clinics and hospitals are back up and running.

This comes after telecommunications provider Telkom disconnected phone lines in February due to outstanding payments by the department.
It was initially reported that 83 clinics and 32 hospitals were affected, but the department said only 11 health facilities were not connected.
Spokesperson Motalatale Modiba said only one hospital remains without phone lines.
“Out of the remaining 11 facilities that were still affected, only Carletonville District Hospital remains disconnected due to theft of copper lines. The service provider (Telkom) will be installing wireless lines in the coming week at the facility. In the meantime, the public is urged to continue using alternative contact numbers as we have previously shared.”
Facilities where phone lines have been restored include Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Steve Biko Academic Hospital and Weskoppies Hospital.
