The party's leadership and members marched from Caledonian Stadium in the city CBD to the seat of government at the Union Buildings.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane told protestors that only his party has a strategy to turn around the embattled state-owned power utility.

He told his supporters that under the DA government, Eskom would be broken into two companies.

Maimane explained that the generation part of Eskom will be privatised, to allow municipalities that are able to afford electricity to buy it from their own coffers.

He accused the African National Congress (ANC) and its cronies of robbing the country blind.

"Now they want to switch off electricity so that we are in the dark so they can finish us.”
