Residents in Howick say they were hit by a severe hail storm while snow has fallen in Sani Pass.

Weather forecasters have warned the heavy downpours and strong winds look set to continue into the weekend. Lennox Mabaso, who is with KZN's Co-operative Governance Department, says disaster teams have been readied.

"The strong wind and storms have ravished part of the province but we believe that our disaster centres will be ready to whatever situation," he said.

Meanwhile, the KZN Sharks Board says due to the ongoing rainfall, a majority of beaches will be closed this weekend, as it won't be safe for people to swim.
