In a statement on Tuesday, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the man was believed to have been part of a group that broke into the SSA offices Pretoria in December last year and made off with about R17 million in foreign currency.

“Members of the public are urged to inform the police about his whereabouts and do not attempt to apprehend him as he is believed to be dangerous. A substantial reward will be offered to anyone who will tip-off the police about the whereabouts of this most wanted man,” Mulaudzi said.

Earlier on Tuesday, two men arrested in connection with the robbery, Khayalethu Mgatyelwa and William Mmotong, appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

Both were employees at SSA, with Mmotong reportedly a driver, while Mgatyelwa was a security officer.

They face charges of theft and housebreaking.

The case against Mmotong was postponed to January 25 for a formal bail application.

His co-accused is already out on bail of R5,000. Both men will be back in the dock on February 18.

It is alleged that the money was stolen from the SSA’s head office on December 26.

Police are urging anyone with information on the third suspect to contact Colonel Tolie Vreugdengburg on 0824517226 or Colonel Makasela Nkuna on 0825658506. - ANA
