[PICTURES] Melville residents unite to remember NY shooting victims

Residents of Melville in Johannesburg held a candle-light vigil for the victims of the New Year's day shooting at Poppy's restaurant.

Shortly after the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve (NYE) a gunman drove past and opened fire on the crowd seeing in the new year at the restaurant, killing 2 people and wounding 4 more. 

On Thursday night, streets were closed off for residents to pay their respects to the deceased.

Gauteng acting Premier, Panyaza Lesufi was visiting patients who were wounded during the shooting incidents that took place on the 1st of January 2020 in Melville and Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on Friday. 


On NY morning,  gunshots were fired at Mary Fitzgerald Square and eleven people were wounded and rushed to hospital.
