Pilots throw their weight behind Numsa, SACCA
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The South African Airways Pilots' Association (SAAPA) has thrown its weight behind the industrial action that is set to start at SAA on Friday.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and the South African Cabin Crew Association (SACCA) are set to down took in they have termed as the “mother of all strikes” at the national carrier.
Their demands include an 8% wage increase, a complete overhaul of the board, three years job security and the in-sourcing of staff hired by private companies.
The association’s chairperson Grant Back says the union stands firmly behind the two unions.
"We stand firmly behind calls by NUMSA and SACCA for a strong and accountable leadership at SAA.
"Since the departure of former CEO Vuyani Jarana, each SAA union has repeatedly called for the appointment of accountable and capable leaders. These pleas have fallen on deaf ears and, as a result, the airline has sunk deeper into the abyss.''
