City of Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says technical teams will be on site to start the repairs.

"Plans for exposing the pipe for repairs are underway. Once the pipe has been exposed, the estimated restoration time will be determined.

"Consequently, the city has been compelled to partially shut down water supply and some areas that are supplied from this pipeline will experience low pressure to no water in the higher lying areas such as Sunnyside, Arcadia and South of the Pretoria CBD, Jacaranda Hospital, Heart Hospital, Muelmed Hospital and the Pretoria Eye Institute."

Water tankers are being arranged to supply the affected customers with water.
