Residents in the City of Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Lesedi Local in Gauteng, and Govan Mbeki, Thembisile Hani, Victor Khanye municipalities in Mpumalanga will all be impacted.
Rand Water will conduct a tie-in of a newly installed pipeline to existing infrastructure affecting reservoirs supplied by S4 pipeline.
The shutdown is expected to last for 53 hours, starting from Thursday at 5pm until 10pm on Saturday.
Executive Director Eddie Singo says the augmentation is necessary to meet the growing demand of water users on the S4 pipeline.
"The work we are doing is part of the major infrastructure rehabilitation, this is the B portion that we are working on, there will be C and D in the future. The intention is to ensure that we provide flexibility on the system and respond to the demand that we are anticipating to increase beyond 2023. It is a temporary inconvenience of 53 hours for better-improved supply beyond 2023."
