Police arrest 2 for murder of Metro cop, Ben Koopman

Police in Cape Town have arrested two suspects for the murder of Metro police officer Ben Koopman who was gunned down near his house in Eerste River on Monday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said: “This afternoon (Wednesday) two suspects, aged 35 and 38, were arrested in Kleinvlei for the murder of Ben Koopman.
“Once charged, the suspects are due to make a court appearance in Blue Downs on a charge of murder. The progress of the investigation is indicative of our efforts to prosecute those who are responsible for an attack on a law enforcement official.”
Koopman, 53, was shot and killed at around 3pm close to his residence in Avon Street, Devon Park, Eersterivier by two armed suspects who fled the scene with his service pistol and his hand radio.
Koopman, who was married with three children, was on duty and dressed in uniform at the time of the incident.
