Police arrest cop killers
Updated | By Pieter van der Merwe
Gauteng police have arrested a group of suspects believed to be involved in an attack on two police officers - killing one of them.
The officers were conducting stop-and-search operations in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, when they pulled over a suspicious white Toyota.
The suspects allegedly opened fire moments later, wounding two officers.
One was declared dead upon arrival at a nearby clinic, while the other is receiving treatment in hospital.
"Just after a few hours... our team has been injured and killed by these bastards, there are some progress in terms of the arrests," says Gauteng Police Commissioner Deliwe De Lange.
She says police managed to identify the suspects shortly after the incident, which lead to the speedy arrests.
Police minister Fikile Mbalula also paid a visit to the Soshanguve Police Station today, where the officers were stationed.
He is expected to visit the wounded officer in hospital as well as the family of the officer who was killed.
"We pass our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," says Mbalula.
The suspects are expected to appear in court this week.
