Police arrest two, recover weapon and ammunition
Updated | By ANA
Police on Wednesday said they had arrested two suspects between, aged 27 & 38 for the possession of a firearm belonging to someone else.
The suspects were arrested at corner Park Avenue and Dolly Rathebe Street in the Johannesburg CBD.
Warrant Officer Xoli Mbele said police were doing routine crime prevention duties when they noticed a suspicious white VW Van on Tuesday night.
“They stopped it and inside were two occupants; they searched them. Police recovered a firearm inside their vehicle with seventeen live rounds,” said Mbele.
The firearm has a serial number, which has been linked to a 59-year-old man, who resides in Daveyton in Ekurhuleni. “Investigation is continuing to determine how the firearm ended up in the hands of the suspects,” said Mbele.
The police said the “rightful owner” will also be charged for failing to report his firearm missing.
The arrested pair will appear in court soon.
