Police clarify NWest brother killing
Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
North West police on Wednesday clarified reports on a youth who allegedly shot dead his brother by accident at Witpoort farm, near Ottosdal.
"At this stage he was not arrested because he must still be assessed by a social worker," Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said.
"It is unclear when he will appear in court because we do not know how long the process is going to take."
The 17-year-old boy, who shot his 21-year-old brother on Monday, was believed to be using his father's rifle to hunt warthogs, Mokgwabone said on Tuesday.
"They were allegedly kneeling down and aiming at a warthog when the 21-year-old brother suddenly stood up," Mokgwabone said at the time.
"It is apparent that the minor, unaware that his brother was standing up, fired a shot, and the bullet allegedly hit the victim in the head."
A case of murder and a case of negligent handling of a firearm were opened.
