Police confiscate shotguns from TUT security
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
A security guard is expected to appear in court today on a charge of attempted murder.
The charge is in connection with a student who was wounded outside the University of Technology's (TUT) West Campus yesterday, amid protests for free higher education.
The police's Sally de Beer says the student was allegedly shot.
"Yesterday, on the campus, the security guard allegedly, accidentally discharged a shotgun and a student was wounded and taken to hospital," De Beer said.
De Beer confirmed police confiscated 11 shotguns that were in the possession of security guards.
"We constantly liaise with the security companies that are deployed on the campuses and where we need to guide them we will do so."
