Police explain training video that's gone viral
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Police in KwaZulu-Natal have confirmed the video that went viral on social media depicting a male police official assaulting a female cop, was, in fact, part of a Domestic Violence Act (DVA) class in Durban.
Police Spokesperson, Jay Naicker, says the video was taken in 2018 in one of the training centres.
"Police management in the province have condemned the posting of the video clip on social media," says Naicker.
Naicker says the enactment in the video forms part of a module about domestic violence, for the pupose of the South African Police Services (SAPS).
Naicker adds it is suspected that one of the police officers who may have attended the training, is responsible for recording the scene and posting it online.
"We believe this individual was extremely malicious because of the timing of the release of the video."
He adds police management has launched an investigation to identify the police officer who recorded the video and institute disciplinary action.
