Police foil robbery on R21

Police in Gauteng have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects who attempted to rob a car transporting gold on the R21 in Benoni on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the suspects were travelling in two cars.
"There was about 10 suspects driving in two white Citi Golfs. The suspects attempted to rob a Toyota Land Cruiser which was allegedly transporting gold."
Makhubele says the robbers fled scene following a shootout between suspects and the police.

Police say no arrests have been made.
"We are calling on anyone with information to contact the police,” says Makhubele.
Two occupants of the vehicle which transported the gold were injured and taken to hospital.
