“Law enforcement officers from various agencies assisted SAPS to boost our operational numbers and maintain high police visibility, which saw large numbers of uniformed officers patrolling the streets.”
The statement said police had searched 27 vehicles and 37 people. Two suspects had been arrested for robbery, six for possession of drugs, one for dealing in drugs, one for possession of counterfeit money and seven for driving under the influence of alcohol. Seized items comprised drugs, cash, counterfeit money, counterfeit clothing and stolen credit cards.
Two suspects who were wanted for theft and assault had also been arrested.
“SAPS will deploy operational members in high numbers during the long weekend and conduct various crime fighting initiatives to ensure a peaceful holiday period,” the statement added. –
