Police hunting for gunmen who shot and killed 5 in Nyanga

Police are hunting for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed five people at the Nyanga terminus near Cape Town.

Two other people were injured in Monday night’s shooting.
Reports from the scene indicate that seven people were sitting in a taxi near the terminus when the gunmen approached the vehicle and fired numerous shots.
Western Cape police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana says four people were killed on the spot while two others sustained serious injuries.
“Detectives from the taxi task team are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at Nyanga terminus on Monday evening where four men were killed on the scene and the fifth victim died in a hospital.
“Two other victims were hospitalised after sustaining serious injuries from the shooting. It is alleged that seven individuals were sitting in a taxi at 21:30 at Sihlanu Avenue when unknown gunmen opened fire randomly. Police have since bolstered deployment at the identified hotspot.”
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
