Police say at least 20 of the football fans who went on the rampage at a match at Durban's Moses Mabhida stadium last weekend have now been identified.
There were chaotic scenes when spectators invaded the pitch - following Kaizer Chiefs' loss to Free State Stars.
Some of the fans assaulted the security guards who were trying to stop them.
There was also damage to stadium property estimated at two-point-six million rand.
The KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker says members of the public have been helping in identifying the culprits.
"Our detectives are working around the clock to get enouhg statements to link these suspects," explains Naicker. "There are a large number of suspects that were picked up by the CCTV cameras as well as the television cameras."
So far, only one person has been arrested in connection with the violence.
The man has appeared in court and was released on bail.
