Police keep an eye on Meyerton
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Police are keeping a close eye on developments in Meyerton, south of Johannesburg, where residents of an informal settlement have been protesting all week.
Police used teargas and rubber bullets for a second day yesterday to keep the large crowd away from the main roads and to try and disperse them.
Roads were blocked and cars driving into the area were stoned.
The media wasn't spared and protesters chased and stoned journalists, attacking and hitting one woman, taking and smashing her camera.
By last night the situation was calmer, but police said they would keep a strong presence until the violence stopped completely.
