Eight young men died when the community rounded up a total of nine people accused of being behind the spike in criminal activity in the area.

One other remains in hospital.

The group were taken to a community sports ground and lynched.

Six people were arrested for the attacks and appeared at the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court last month.

The suspects are expected to apply for bail in June.

Another two men are wanted for the crime.

"Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for a man known as Mali Dube who is suspected to be involved in the murder of eight people and the attempted murder one person in Zandspruit, Honeydew, on the 19th May 2021," said Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele.

"Police are also looking for Joshua Given Mabodze who can help the police in the investigation of the same murder, attempted murder and kidnapping case.

"Since the incident happened the two wanted people have not been seen in Zandspruit."

Police Minister Bheki Cele recently visited the area where he vowed to attend to Zandspruit residents' claims of inefficient policing in the area.
