Gauteng police recovered
24 guns and arrested over 900 suspects over the
long weekend.
Gauteng police's Kay Makhubela says the weekend’s operations focused on roads, intensifying police visibility and integrated crime prevention operations.
"Police have been out on the road this long weekend conducting road blocks, stop and search and raiding where they managed to arrest 900 suspects. In the 900 about 24 were for unlicensed firearms and also drunk and driving, position of stolen motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property, rape, murder.”

He says more than 100 people were arrested in known crime hot-spots.
"Ten non-compliant liquor outlets were closed down. Thirty suspects wanted for serious and violent crimes were successfully traced and arrested. A number of suspects were also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.”
The suspects will appear in various magistrate courts soon.
