Gauteng police’s Kay Makhubela says a further 16 suspects were arrested for malicious damage to property in a tavern after police responded to a complaint of people who attacked a metro police van.
"When the police arrived they attacked the van of the metro police, it was found that those other suspects some were selling drugs and also suspects who were wanted for armed robbery," Makhubela says.
Makhubela says police will continue to track down drug manufacturing labs and drug lords..
He also warns that police will conduct more roadblocks in order to clamp down on errand drivers over the festive season.
"Police will continue with stop-and search operations as part of the clampdown throughout the festive season. As most people will be closing at work for holidays, police will also enforce the laws, especially drunk and driving and take a strong action against the selling of liquor to young people.”
The suspects are set to appear at the local magistrate court soon.
