The police in KwaZulu-Natal is mourning the loss of one of its officers.
Thirty-year-old Constable Jeandre Venter was gunned down in Msinga on Thursday night.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says Venter and another officer had gone to arrest two suspected car thieves.
They nabbed the first suspect and then proceeded to a nearby home to arrest the second person.
Naicker says Venter stayed in the vehicle with the first suspect while his partner walked towards the residence.
"Whilst he was few meters away, he heard gunshots being fired. The police officer returned to the vehicle and discovered that Constable Venter and the suspect had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.
“They were declared dead at the scene. Charges of murder were opened at Msinga SAPS and the Hawks have taken over the investigation."
