Police officer guns down ex-wife at Brits hospital

North West police have arrested one of their own for the murder of his estranged wife in Brits.

The suspect, who was stationed in Silverton, allegedly shot and killed his ex-wife who was on duty at the Brits hospital on Wednesday morning.
The 39-year-old sergeant later handed himself over to police in Brits.
Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the 35-year-old woman was also pregnant.
"It is alleged that the police officer went to the hospital where her ex-wife was working as a switchboard operator, she was at the hospital entrance when the suspect fired several shots and instantly killed the victim.
"The motive of the incident is unknown at this stage and investigations by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate are underway.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court soon.
