Police officers nabbed for smuggling
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Limpopo police have arrested three officers for allegedly trying to smuggle cars between South Africa and Mozambique.
The three police officers and a fourth suspect were nabbed after they tried to smuggle two vehicles into Mozambique through the Giriondo border.
The suspects were caught by undercover agents from the Hawks and Police Crime Intelligence.
The officers allegedly demanded R80 000 in order to complete the paperwork needed for the vehicles to leave the country.
"There was an outcry that suspected stolen vehicles are smuggled through the borders of South Africa. This is not our first operation, we had another where we arrested several police officers at the Beitbridge border post and at Botswana," says the police's Matimba Maluleke.
Police have increased patrols at the country's borders in an effort to curb smuggling.
