Police probing Unisa exam leak
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The University of South Africa (Unisa) has confirmed that several exam papers have been leaked to students.

The papers were leaked ahead of the May/June exams and has already been reported to the police’s commercial crimes investigation unit.
Unisa spokesperson Martin Ramotshela says the institution received a tip-off from students, saying some of their counterparts have been able to access exam papers.
“The students reported the matter to the university and presented WhatsApp messages as evidence.
"We can confirm that the unit together with our internal audit department is currently investigating the matter.”

Eight exam papers, out of a total number of 2600, have been affected.
Ramotshela says he cannot confirm the exact modules due to the ongoing police probe.
“Eight modules in the College of Human Sciences, College of Economic and Management Sciences and the College of Accounting Sciences have been leaked.
“Exams will continue as planned. However, in the process of marking, should the investigation find that a student may have had access to the exam papers prior, modules will be cancelled and marks will be taken away and the students will face a disciplinary hearing.
“We want to emphasise as a university that even if it was one exam paper, it is one too many. And we would still be treating it with the same seriousness.”
