Police in Gauteng have raided illegal mining operations in Benoni, Ekurhuleni on Friday.
Commercial explosives suspected of being used during illegal mining activities were confiscated.
Thirteen undocumented foreign nationals have also been taken in for verification of their stay in the country.
Provincial police spokesperson, Mathapelo Peters says about 40 blasting cartridges, seven connectors capped fuses, and one length of detonating fuse were seized during the raid.
"Police also found food, bottled water, and grocery items suspected to be provisions for illegal miners and these items were also seized," said Peters.
"Members of the bomb disposal in Germiston had to urgently destruct some of the explosives which they found were primed and ready to be initiated," Peters added.
