Police recover livestock, firearms during shootout in Katlehong

Gauteng police have recovered 30 livestock and two illegal firearms during a shootout with the suspects in Zonkezizwe, south of Katlehong.

Gauteng police spokesperson Kay Makhubele says the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
“Police from the local police station were conducting routine patrols when they observed a suspicious red Toyota Quantum with two occupants. The members then stopped the vehicle, and upon their search two illegal firearms and 10 goats were recovered in the combi.
“The suspects led the police to where their accomplices where 10 goats and 10 sheep were also recovered,” he said.
Makhubele says the suspects subsequently opened fire on the police..
“Upon their arrival three suspects were found with other life stock. The suspects noticed that their friends are a companied by the police, and they started to open fire at police. Police returned fire and one suspect was shot and killed and one police officer was injured and taken to hospital; he is in a stable condition.
“Police recovered the other sheep and goats. The other two suspects fled the scene,” says Makhubele.
Police launched a manhunt for the remaining two suspects.
The other suspects will appear in court soon.
