Police reservist shot and killed in Soweto
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
A police reservist has been shot and killed by a group of armed robbers in Diepkloof.
Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini says the 42 year old Constable Nicholas Maluleke and his colleague were doing foot patrols at the Diepkloof taxi rank last night when they responded to a call of an armed robbery.
"When they approached the scene, Maluleke and his partnered were met with fire. That is when he was shot and wounded in the upper body", says Dlamini.
Maluleke was subsequently rushed to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where he later dies.
Dlamini says police have launched a manhunt for at least six suspects who are responsible for Maluleke's murder.
"The suspects used a Toyota Quantum and a Corolla with unknown registration numbers as their getaway cars", added Dlamini.
Police are pleading with anyone with information to come forward and assist.
