This comes after the gruesome discovery of six bodies on a farm on the south coast of the province.

The bodies were found separately but are believed to be linked.

On Tuesday, Zikalala visited the families of the women.

He told members of the community that more law enforcement would be deployed to the area.

“We need to work together with communities in effort to bring back ubuntu in effort to eliminate drugs and all criminal activities that are prevalent in the area,” Zikalala said.

Civil Society Organisations call on Ramaphosa, Mboweni to strengthen Public Procurement Bill

Corruption Watch and the Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) have written an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister of Finance Tito Mboweni, expressing their deep concern at the high level of corruption allegedly committed through the procurement system.

Last month two suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in the murders.

One of the suspects later committed suicide in custody and the second was released due to a lack of evidence against him.

“We are saying it seems as if women have been raped before they were killed and that is still being investigated but more than that we have deployed the police and increased the capacity. There is more patrolling in every hour."

The premier was joined by the provincial police commissioner and MECs for community safety and social development.

He laid wreaths at the spots were the bodies were discovered - as he launched the province's year-round campaign against gender-based violence.
