Policeman killed in Nelspruit

A police officer has been shot dead while on duty in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga police said on Thursday.

 

"We request the public to rally behind the police in finding and bringing the perpetrator(s) to book", said provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Thulani Ntobela.

 

Constable Bheki Lucia Thobela, 34, was found in a police car with all his belongings. Ntobela described the crime as "lawless and senseless", and said police would get to the bottom of it.

 

Police suspected that high calibre weapons were used in the crime, judging by cartridges found at the scene. No arrests had yet been made.
