The police’s National Counterfeit Unit in November has managed to confiscate illegal goods worth over R300 million since it began operating in November.

The goods, which include clothing, sports apparel, shoes, bags, caps and perfumes, were seized in cities including Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town.
Together with officials from the SA Revenue Service, Border Management Authority and Brand Protectors, 23 suspects of different nationalities were arrested across the country.
Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk said over 30 vehicles which were used in the commission of the crime were also confiscated.
"In addition, police also seized various manufacturing equipment such as sewing-, embroidery-, and silk-screening machines which were used to counterfeit unbranded items.
"On Wednesday, the National Counterfeit unit led yet another integrated takedown operation which resulted in the seizure of counterfeit goods worth over R80 million in Bellville, Western Cape and arrested two Somalian suspects,” she said.
