Political stability necessary for a growing economy: Motlanthe
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
Political stability is necessary for South Africa to have a growing economy.
This is according to former president Kgalema Motlanthe, who addressed the media in Johannesburg on Friday evening.
He explained the work of the high level panel that he leads, which assess the impact of laws passed since 1994
The former president explained this high level panel met with various stakeholders and will now continue to meet with communities across the country to find out how our laws impact poverty, inequality and unemployment, land, distribution of wealth, and nation building.
"The fourth Parliament, in its legacy report, felt that time has arrived for Parliament to take a pause and assess whether all these legislations have had the desired impact on communities and South African citizens," Motlanthe said.
The panel is set to release an interim report by April/May, and the final report before the end of the year.
Motlanthe stressed the importance of collegiality in the government, saying if everyone works together it creates political stability and a growing economy.
He would, however, not comment on the current climate within the government and the ruling party.
