Politicians need to make realistic promises, says analyst

Political analyst Levi Ndou has urged political parties not to put unrealistic promises in their election manifestos.
This comes after Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema promised his supporters that the would rid the country of load shedding within six-months if voted into power.
South Africans battled with long hours of darkness over the weekend after Eskom implemented stage 6 load shedding.
The utility has since eased the rolling blackouts to stage 5.
Malema also vowed to create jobs for all South Africans and give back the land to the rightful owners.
He made these promises at the party's manifesto launch at Moses Mabhida Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.
Ndou says the purpose of every political organisation is to contest elections and run the government.
"Sometimes when you make unrealistic promises, it might work in your favour or not work in your favour.
"So it is important to be very calculative for politicians when they make promises to the people."
