Pongola crash: Truck driver appears in court

The truck driver alleged to be behind a deadly N2 crash in Pongola, in northern KZN, has indicated his intention to apply for bail.

Twenty-one people, 19 of whom were schoolchildren, were killed in a head-on collision between his truck and bakkie on Friday.
The children were between the ages of five and 12.
The driver of the truck fled the scene after the incident but handed himself over to police on Saturday.
He appeared briefly before the Pongola Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where the court heard that he intends to apply for bail.
He faces 21 counts of culpable homicide.
The case was postponed til next Monday for bail purposes.
