Popcru: Covid-19 vaccine for police 'long overdue'
Updated | By Karabo Tebele
The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has reiterated its belief that the vaccination of the country’s police officers is long overdue.
The Department of Health is expected to launch the Covid-19 inoculation campaign targeting the country’s police officers on Monday morning.
The union’s spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says the time has come for their frontline members to receive the jab.
"As a union, we are quite excited that our members will be getting vaccinated from tomorrow onwards.
"It has obviously been a long time coming because our members have been always been in the forefront of ensuring that we suppress the spread of the virus meant that they had to be vaccinated as early as possible."
Mamabolo believes the vaccination will relieve some of the stress relief members in blue are under.
"They have been getting infected daily, so this vaccination brings relief, in that those who would be infected after being vaccinated won't have as severe the implications as those who would not have been. Members are happy the process has finally come."
