This is according to the 20th edition of the World Bank report entitled Africa’s Pulse delivered in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon.

The report further states that four in ten Africans live below the poverty line

It estimates that at least 146 million people on the continent survived on just $1,90 per day in 2015, which is equivalent to R29 a day.

Chief Economist for Africa at the World Bank Albert Zeufack explains:

"The poverty agenda in Africa should put the poor in control, helping to accelerate the fertility transition, leverage the food system on and off the farm, adress risk and conflict and provide more and better public finance to improve the lives of the most vulnerable," adds Zeufack.
