Power outage leaves Tshwane residents in the dark
Updated | By Mapaballo Borotho
Residents in several areas in Tshwane have been plunged into darkness following a power outage that occurred on Sunday.

The city's Wolmer 132kv substation was vandalised and damaged in an attempt to steal copper conductors.
Armed criminals damaged the substation's medium voltage equipment and cables.
This has led to some areas within the substation supply network being subjected to darkness for days.
Affected areas include Tileba, Winternest, Pretoria North and Clarina.
Tshwane's spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says the necessary material for repairs has been secured, and repair work is currently underway.
"The repairs commenced on Monday and continued until Tuesday. Unfortunately, following the completion of the repair work, another cable fault was identified within the substation yard, which affected the restoration of electricity to Winternest and Clarina.
"Subsequently, four additional underground cable faults on the network rings were identified, which further hindered the restoration of Clarina's electricity supply.”
Mashigo says it is unfortunate that the city's electricity technicians have been subjected to verbal abuse, intimidation and threats of violence by community members.
"The city understands the frustration caused by this prolonged power outage and would like to plead for patience during this restoration period," says Mashigo.
