PP's daughter to lay charges against Afriforum Youth
Updated | By Suné du Toit
Wenzile Madonsela, the daughter of Public Protector Thuli Madonsela, said on Friday she was going to lay a charge of assault against an Afriforum youth member.
Madonsela said they had a meeting with the University's Management yesterday to discuss the language policy.
She said they were forced into a room with Afriforum members.
"They took off my beret then I insulted the man saying he was patently unintelligent. Him and his group came around me, they assaulted me, then slapped me," she said.
Madonsela said she was also going to hold the University to account, because it is their duty to protect students.
"I'm a student at the University of Pretoria before I am a member of the [EFF] Student Command. I also deserve the same protection that any other student deserves; white, black, coloured, Indian alike," she said.
Students belonging to the EFF Student Command at UP threatened to shut down the institution. They're demanding that Afrikaans be scrapped as a medium of instruction. They were also calling for the language policy to be overhauled.
